The original radio faceplate had the standard dials (obviously included), defrost button (included), and airbag light (NOT included). As for the build of the item…. the plastic feels pretty cheap but it holds together well. The mount pieces are a bit flimsy but they hold the radio in place fine. Overall, you can tell the face plate is pretty cheap and it makes me wonder how this is so expensive. Using it….. The dials work fine; they wobble a little when you move them but it gets the job done. The defrost button works (even know it looks a bit funny/out of place). I love having a custom radio in my car The airbag light…. since there is no light on the faceplate my cars airbag warning light goes off. I’m not exactly sure what the warning means, but, after some forum searching i’ve read that it could be a simple malfunction OR my airbag system could not be working all together. Whatever the reason, I’m not sure if you would pass inspection with this unit installed (considering you have the same airbag problem as me). Overall, I recommend this faceplate if you do not care about build quality and just want to save a few bucks (as I was thinking when i purchased it). This faceplate simply “works” and nothing more. The instructions cannot be called “fully illustrated” for several reasons. The illustrations only illustrate half of the installation (the easy parts). The section on wiring is only a few short sentences that read something like (and I am paraphrasing) “run the wires and connect them with the new unit’s wires.” Awful. If it were that simple, there would be no problem, but it is not that simple. There are no diagrams showing how or even explaining how the old wiring ought to be handled or to confirm that the new wiring was properly installed. In my Ford, the actual radio is in the trunk, and it is wired to the display in the front. Installing a new head unit replaces the need for the tuner/amp in the trunk. There is no discussion about where these former connections should go (if anywhere), but only a small diagram identifying what would be plugged into the tuner–useless wasted ink. Additionally, the instructions cannot be called “detailed.” The full description as fully illustrated and detailed leads a person to believe that such instructions would be so clear that there would be no need for questions that obviously would arise in the course of installation. btw, here is a link to the instructions: [...]. “Wiring Connection” number 5 is really the instruction that is not intuitive, and yet, it is the most important instruction. Although you cannot necessarily blame the seller here, but rather the manufacturer “Scosche,” there must be something said about advertising and selling products that are not all that they purport to be. Until the company remedies the problems (and I have contacted them), DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. Unless you are well versed in car audio electronics (and I am not an idiot mind you), you will be left–as I am–with a disassembled car and so many questions to be answered. |
(sound quality is much better versus the standard… but that has nothing to do with the faceplate). However, this does not have an airbag light which is a serious problem for my car!
